If you do not have a valid travel document and cannot get a new one in your country of nationality for reasons beyond your control, you can apply for a travel identity card.

The card is issued with territorial validity to all countries of the world. However, we recommend that you check whether it is recognised in the destination or transit countries.

This applies to you if

You do not have your own travel document and can prove that you cannot obtain a new one independently of your will and at the same time:

• hold a long-term residence permit or a temporary residence permit of an EU citizen’s family member in the Czech Republic, 
• hold in the Czech Republic a visa for a stay longer than 90 days for the purpose of leave to remain or
• hold a long-term residence permit for the purpose of leave to remain.

• application form; 
• photograph; 
• proof of reasons independent of the will.

Where and how to solve this service

You can apply in person at a Ministry of the Interior office in your catchment area or by post.

How much will you pay

You will pay a fee of CZK 200. It is only payable when the document is issued. Administrative fees are payable in the form of non-cash payments only. 

Pay the administrative fee by credit card at a Ministry of the Interior office. 

Additional information

What is the benefit of this service

You will receive a travel identity card for the same period as the validity of your residence permit or long-term visa (but no longer than 180 or 365 days).

Appeal options

You can appeal against the decision within 15 days of the delivery of the decision. You can file the appeal in person or send it by mail (or electronically) to the given office of the MOI CR or to the head office of the MOI.
