Registration of residence by a third-country national after arrival in the Czech Republic

This is a notification of presence on the territory of the Czech Republic to the Department of Foreign Police within 3 working days from the date of entry into the territory. 

This applies to you if

As a foreigner who arrives in the Czech Republic without a visa with a biometric passport or with a long-term visa, you are obliged to notify the Foreign Police Department of your presence within 3 working days.

As a foreigner who comes to the Czech Republic to receive a long-term or permanent residence, you must register at the Ministry of the Interior within 30 days (if you have been issued a DV/R) or within 3 days (if you are coming without a visa).

You do not need to get registered if you:

  • have met this requirement at the accommodation (e.g. you are staying at a hotel, dormitory or another accommodation establishment),
  • you are under 15 years of age,
  • you are a staff member of a foreign country’s diplomatic mission or an international government organisation accredited in the Czech Republic (this also applies to your family members who are registered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), or
  • you are a third country citizen and the Ministry of the Interior provides you with accommodation.
