Main information

If your child is born in the Czech Republic, s/he can stay temporarily without a visa on the territory for a maximum period of 60 days. Within this period, s/he must either leave the country, or you, as his or her legal representative, can apply for a residence permit or a visa for the child at a Ministry of the Interior office.

You can apply for:

• Permanent residence permit – if at least one of the parents is a holder of a valid permanent residence permit.
• Long-term residence permit – if at least one of the parents is a holder of a valid long-term residence permit (including, for instance, an employee card).
• Long-term visa – if at least one of the parents is a holder of a valid long-term visa.

This applies to you if

Your child was born in the Czech Republic and you want to stay with him/her for more than 60 days.

When to use this service

The child´s parent legal representative must file the application within 60 days from the date of the child´s birth. 

The 60day time limit is deemed to be extended if the application could not be submitted within this time limit for reasons beyond one’s control. The time limit is deemed to be extended until these reasons cease to exist. You must notify the Police or the Ministry of the Interior of these reasons immediately.

What you need if you are using this service

Depending on the type of permit you will be applying for your child, select from:

• application form for a long-term visa;
• application form for a long-term residence;
• application form for a permanent residence.

You will also need:

• child's travel document;
• child's birth certificate.

In the case of a visa application also:

• proof of travel medical insurance for the duration of the stay or an affidavit that the parents will pay the costs of the child's medical services.

If you do not have all the requirements within 60 days of the birth, still submit the application as incomplete. You can submit all the necessary documents - birth certificate and travel document - later.

How much will you pay

When applying for long-term and permanent residence you will pay 1 000 CZK.

Application for a long-term visa is without administrative fee.

The administrative fee must be paid by credit card at a Ministry of the Interior office.
